Using found footage and documents from the Moscow archives, Sergej Loznica reconstructs the WWII Siege of Leningrad (1941-44) in Blockade, whose images are accompanied by a sound score that is also meticulously reconstructed, by Vladimir Golovnitsky. The picture we are drawn tran- scends historical contingency, it is not a mere evocation of past dramatic events but instead a “reanimated” reality that takes our breath away today.
