Mansi children of a boarding school in Ivdeľ, the northernmost town in the region of Sverdlovsk (Siberia), await winter vacation so they can return to Treskoľe, where there is no television, no any- thing. To reach their hometown, they must travel an entire day on a dilapidated truck, through forests and endless snow-covered fields. Yet nothing beats home, where the kids go sledding or play cards all night long with grandma. The routine is interrupted only by small incidents that mark the passing of time. The director objectively records the daily lives of the villagers in order to draw into their world.
