In Czarist Russia (and later), “katorga” was the penal system in which prisoners served time in remote places, doing hard labor. Evgenij Solomin tells the story of Igor’ Ibragimov, who today is serv- ing his sentence in a foundry in a Siberian prison. His only visitor is his elderly father. The Dostojevsky-esque portrait of a slave with an unbearable destiny. Katorga was selected in presti- gious festivals including the Festival du Reél in Paris and the International Leipzig Festival.
