COMPETITION PESARO NUOVO CINEMA 2018 The Lino Miccichè Award for Best Film (...)
PESARO NUOVO CINEMA – LINO MICCICHÈ AWARD
The seven films in Pesaro Nuovo Cinema – Lino Miccichè Award, the competition section instituted seven years ago (and which carries a €3000 prize) are:
PARK JUNG-BUM’s THE JOURNALS OF MUSAN (South Korea); GUSTAVO TARETTO’s MEDIANERAS (Argentina); from France, this time with a documentary, SYLVAIN GEORGE’s QU’ILS REPOSENT EN REVOLTE; and HEADSHOTS (Germany) by American-born, Berlin-based LAWRENCE TOOLEY. New entries in Competition are Thailand, with SIVAROJ KONGSAKUL’s spiritual ETERNITY; Sri Lanka, with the dramatic FLYING FISH by SANJEEWA PUSHPAKUMARA; and Brazil, with the dark comedy TRABALHAR CANSA by JULIANA ROJAS and MARCO DUTRA.
The winning film was chosen by a jury comprising journalist and film critic for Il Messaggero Fabio Ferzetti, screenwriter-director Marina Spada and actress Isabella Ragonese.
WINNING FILM:
MUSANILGI / THE JOURNALS OF MUSAN di/BY Park Jung-Bum
THE MOTIVATION:
For its profoundly personal approach and the continual moral tension with which it depicts the daily struggle, inner wounds and desperate hope of its protagonist, who lives at the very bottom rung of the social ladder. And for simultaneously shedding a light on the lives of immigrants from North Korea – in a style that is always sober yet absorbing – essentially one of the most dramatic and above all veiled aspects of South Korean society.
The Jury also gives an HONORABLE MENTION to:
QU’ILS REPOSENT EN REVOLTE (DES FIGURES DE GUERRE I) di Sylvain George
THE MOTIVATION:
For its poetic force, combined with an intense approach with which it creates a contemporary Odyssey, exploring those who are invisible in every recess of the world, to give a form and sense to the negated lives of the world’s dammed. With a strong and original language that freely contaminates cinema, documentary and video art.

PESARO CINEMA GIOVANE AWARD
The Youth Jury, composed of students and recent graduates of the Carlo Bo University of Urbino, awards its prize to:
MUSANILGI / THE JOURNALS OF MUSAN di Park Jung-Bum
THE MOTIVATION:
For its masterful direction, which precisely presents the story and personality of the protagonist. For the honesty and dignity of this work that, through the narrated events, delves deeply into human nature and the compromises necessary for living in a context and society as difficult as South Korea.

AMNESTY ITALIA PRIZE 2011, CINEMA AND HUMAN RIGHTS
The jury, presided over by Gianfranco Cabiddu and comprising Sonya Orfalian, Riccardo Giagni, Antonello Grimaldi and Riccardo Noury, presents the Amnesty International Cinema and Human Rights Prize to:
EVEN THE RAIN by ICIAR BOLLAIN
THE MOTIVATION:
With an extremely efficient narration, held up by an attentive screenplay, the film takes an original approach in tackling the crucial theme of access to a fundamental human right, water, the demand for which resounds in every part of the world. Relating the past to the present, this film incisively captures South American society, with a particular ethical sensibility, an effective cinematic rhythm and notable cultural and social commitment. It deserves this award for its lucidity, sense of responsibility and the commitment with which it presents and analyzes the enormous changes taking place on the Latin American continent.
The jury also gives a SPECIAL MENTION to director Sylvain George and his film QU’ILS REPOSENT EN REVOLTE (DES FIGURES DE GUERRES I)
THE MOTIVATION:
For its critical and courageous vision of an “uncomfortable” story of human suffering; for Sylvain George’s overall work as a filmmaker committed to social issues and for his indispensable filmography, made up of raw, human truth.
