The students came from diverse Italian universities and film schools: La Sapienza (Rome), Urbino (Carlo Bo), Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum), Salerno, Milan, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Chieti and Pescara.
Jury coordinator: Antonio Valerio Spera.
After intense deliberation, the jury is presenting the Lino Micciché Award for Best Film to:
OGRES by Léa Fehner (France, 2015, 144’).
Motivation: The Jury of the 52nd Pesaro International Film Festival unanimously presents the Lino Miccichè Award to Léa Fehner’s Ogres for its powerful depiction of life’s many nuances, as captured through a multi-colored microcosm; for acrobatic and dynamic storytelling that envelops viewers in a merry-go-round of notes, colors and emotions; for penetrating dialogue that render the melancholy of life; and for holding up a dreamlike mirror to the artistic essence within human nature.
The Jury is also presenting Special Mentions to:
1) For a Son by Suranga Deshapriya Katugampala (Italy, 2016, 74’): For a moving, intimate story that is also a candid social portrait; for a realism that simmers within seductive symbolism; and for the performance of the lead actress, whose anxieties and silent gazes contain the difficulties of the path towards full multiculturalism.
2) David by Jan Tesitel (Czech Republic, 2015, 78’): For its stylistic and formal coherence; for its bold look at emotional incommunicability; and for its lead actor, who brings an extreme truth to the complexities of his character, infusing the film with an always vibrant psychological tension.
OGRES by Léa Fehner also won the CINEMA IN PIAZZA AUDIENCE AWARD, voten on by the audiences of Pesaro’ nightly screenings in the square.
